Description

This documentary bears the thread of our connection to each another. It’s up to us to ensure our legacy will never be forgotten by future generations. Their true legacy are the descendants that follow them. Birth of the Black Stembridge Family, April 1840, Sanford, July, Prudent, Semi Stembridge. 178 years and counting, grand Total – 1419 Descendants. Have you ever wonder, where we came from? The name Stembridge is not a common name. Let’s explore it together. As the story was explained to me, there were many slaves on the Hudson Plantation, but these four-brother had the same slave father and slave mother, so they are connected by blood, not only by name. In 1840, our ancestors were slaves, an agreement was reach between the Stembridge (White) and the Hudson Plantation. The agreement was the Stembridge slaves would work and live on the Hudson Plantation but would keep their Stembridge name and not become property of the Hudson Plantation. July Stembridge was the only Stembridge, that didn’t live on the Hudson Plantation, he was rented out to the Reed Plantation.
