About the Author Mike Burt began collecting auto-themed medals in 1954 at the age of 9 when he was given a souvenir medal from the San Francisco General Motors Motorama. The medals nicely complimented his 1/87 scale model car collection that eventually grew to over 4000 pieces. Following a stint in the Navy as a hospital corpsman during the late 60’s he completed his BA in English and history at the University of Texas at Arlington. For three years he worked in a partnership publishing the monthly magazine, Model Car Journal. During this time he realized that while there was considerable information available regarding model cars, very little could be found documenting auto-related medals and medallions. In 1993 he began putting together a catalog of medals based upon his personal collection, completing this 25-year project shortly after retiring his full-time job.
