CREATESPACE Surgery topics in horse: Horse medicine

The goal of veterinary surgery may be quite different in pets and in farm animals. In the former, situation is a bit like in human beings, and more and more complex operations are performed, with sophisticated anesthesia techniques. In the latter, the cost of the operation must not exceed the economic benefit in surgically treating the illness.Large animal surgery has two major components: equine/horse surgery and farm animal surgery (bovine, ovine and caprine species). Important purposes may differ between these two groups. Veterinarian with the experience and training is necessary to perform the surgery for horses and farm animals.Like most health care fields, the veterinary profession has become multi-tiered. Veterinarians may now specialize in various disciplines including: surgery, internal medicine, radiology, anesthesiology, ophthalmology, dermatology cardiology oncology. All veterinarians may perform surgery as part of their veterinary practice. However, difficult cases may be best managed by a specialist. This text is paid attention to surgical considerations of the equine, bovine, ovine and caprine species. The text included chapter on general surgical considerations that provides good background information for anesthesia for practitioners. The topics of operations included the anatomical structures of the tissue or organ on operation and pharmacology of commonly used general and local anesthetic agents. The specific surgical content is covered on the basis of body systems, with diagrams or photographs and illustrations. This book is included Topics of large animal surgeries: Colic surgery, Soft-tissue surgery, Upper respiratory surgery, Sinus surgery, Guttural pouch surgery, Ophthalmology surgery, Eye defect or eye injury repair, Reproductive surgery (Urogenital surgery, Cesarean section), Orthopedic surgery and Miscellaneous surgeries. All survival surgery should be performed using aseptic techniques, including surgical gloves, masks, sterile instruments, and aseptic techniques, as well as Animal Welfare Act regulations. Appropriate attention to pre-surgical planning, personnel training, aseptic and surgical technique, animal well-being, and physiological status during all phases of protocol will enhance the outcome of surgery. The main purpose of the book is to point out the interest of veterinary surgery and the progress in this field and to clear its importance in the field of veterinary medicine. The book is concisely and clearly written and intended for veterinarians and clinicians and for people directly involved in equines and farm animal’s health and production. It would also be of value to post and undergraduate veterinary students.
