Implications of the research findings for theory, practice and policy are discussed. Following this, the authors discuss the well-being of Yi minority youth, particularly their cultural learning and connectedness to the Yi group that defines their ethnic identity. The closing study investigate differences in caretaking practices between left-behind children and children from non-migrant families in rural China, and the heterogeneity within the left-behind population.
