Description

Tropical diseases have become a prominent focus with the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and previously neglected diseases now have the funding for research. As a result there have been enormous leaps in our understanding of diseases, such as malaria and schistosomiasis. The hope of the United Nations has been to incorporate this research into clinical improvement for those impoverished by these diseases. In addition, interest in travel, rapid transportation of tourists and immigrants seeking education and employment as well as climate changes have made tropical diseases a worldwide phenomenon. In this yearbook we have several chapters on tropical diseases, but also some interesting chapters on mental health issues and holistic health from around the world.
