Marshy salt-soil improvement and efficient use are a worldwide problem. As the global population increases and urbanisation accelerates, arable land will be the most serious challenge for human beings and is decreasing under global climate change and the pressure of various environmental issues. This case is especially true for China. Modern agriculture is facing a serious challenge which will extend into the future. Land is one of the most important resources for the survival of the human race. How to increase arable land capacity is the key for sustainable agriculture development. China has extensive marshy land that can be reclaimed for better potential land resources, which will be a good model for enlarging global arable land. Related studies have been conducted in China for the past 30 years, and now many results concerning economic efficiency have been obtained. For the purpose of summarising these results as an example of salt-soil improvement and efficient development and demonstration, the authors have kindly organised this book series.
