When humans first released the energy from atoms, we came to see all matter as nothing but speed and flame. From this moment, the billowing waves of the global nuclear arms race formed a menacing undercurrent subverting the existing international situation. The Manhattan Project was the protagonist at the helm of all this; the scientific project universally recognized as the largest in scale, incurring the highest costs and having the most profound influence on the world. This book collects a large variety of stories, allowing the reader to get to know the central characters, technical standards, administrative muscle and historical legacy of the Manhattan Project. About the Author Since he joined the faculty of the Institute of Applied Mechanics of National Taiwan University in 1989, Professor Falin Chen has devoted himself to three major research fields: the stability of fluid flow; ventilation in road tunnel and subway systems; and energy-related research, such as the Kuroshio power harness, the water and thermal management of hydrogen fuel cells, and the strategy of carbon dioxide emission abatement. He is the author and co-author of more than 110 papers published in internationally renowned journals such as J. Fluid Mech., Physics of Fluids, and Physical Rev. E. In 2013, he published the book The Kuroshio Power Plant.
