He is a finance professor, department chair, and the director of the Kieback Center for International Business at Syracuse University. Philippatos was professor emeritus in the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He held a Ph.D. in finance and investment from New York University and completed post-doctoral work in econometrics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and game theory at Yale.
