About the Author Marlin Barber, Ph.D. is a senior instructor of history at Missouri State University, where he teaches courses in American history, slavery in the Atlantic World, Black leaders and movements, African American studies, and historical inquiry. He holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Missouri and M.A. in history from the University of Houston – Clear Lake.
