Women Artists in History from Antiquity to the Present introduces students to the many ways in which women have participated in the visual cultures of their societies throughout history. Part IV explores how the development of Modernism worked to marginalize the works of women artists from 1900 – 1970. In the final part, the positive effects of feminism for women artists in the United States and internationally, are examined. Wendy Slatkin is an emerita faculty member of art history at California Polytechnic State University, Pomona. She received her Ph.D. in late 19th and 20th century French painting and sculpture from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a noted art historian, an expert in the field of gender studies, and the author of In Her Own Words: A Primary Source Book of Autobiographical Texts by Women Artists in the 19th and 20th Centuries, Women Artists in History from Antiquity to the Present, and The Voices of Women Artists.
