Each chapter of the text features easy-to-understand lessons and carefully selected readings that demonstrate key concepts and skill sets. The book begins with a chapter that explains to students how writing for college courses is different than any other writing they’ve done before. In subsequent chapters, students learn the basic structures of writing, how to choose a topic and construct a thesis statement, how to write effectively for an intended audience, and how to include evidence and argument to support a thesis statement. Additional chapters discuss essay organization, writing with style, reviewing drafts, and adding finishing touches. Featuring a conversational and approachable voice, Good College Writing is designed to enhance students’ understanding of essential writing, reading, and research skills. The text is an excellent resource for introductory courses in English or creative writing that focus on composition or the basics of essay writing. Zachary Stewart earned his M.A. and B.A. in British and American literature from Florida Atlantic University. He is an associate professor of English at Palm Beach State College and a former English teacher for grades 9-12 at Palm Beach Lakes High School. His interests include many types of literature, especially “geek culture,” as well as politics and baseball.
