Cognella Academic Publishing Sensation and Perception: From Cells to Awareness

Sensation and Perception: From Cells to Awareness is an anthology comprised of classic and contemporary peer-reviewed journal articles related to sensation and perception, with special emphasis on vision, as it is well-researched and the most dominant of the five senses. The collection provides students with valuable instruction on how to read journal articles, comprehension questions to guide them through each article, and application questions to challenge their knowledge. With the goal of helping students understand how science is conducted and reported, Sensation and Perception contains full-length articles rather than excerpts, so students can effectively study them in full and learn from the content and structure of each article. Students read research pertaining to mapping cortical receptive fields, statistical learning, color vision, action and perception, the auditory system, and more. Novel in approach and immensely valuable to students who need experience reading, analyzing, and applying research for various programs or professions, this anthology is well suited for courses in sensation and perception, visual systems, and cognitive research methods. Ashleigh Maxcey, Ph.D., is a visiting associate professor in the Department of Psychology at The Ohio State University, currently with a summer appointment at Vanderbilt University. She earned her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Iowa with a specialization in cognition and perception. Dr. Maxcey’s current research involves applying behavioral, transcranial direct-current stimulation, and electrophysiological techniques to understand how human memory functions.
