About the Author Francis D. Degnin is an associate professor of philosophy at the University of Northern Iowa, where he teaches courses in biomedical ethics, perspectives on death and dying, and philosophy. He holds doctoral and master's degrees in philosophy from Vanderbilt University, a master's in philosophy from Villanova University, and a master's in pastoral ministry from Seattle University. No stranger to illness or death, Dr. Degnin serves as both an ethics consultant and a night chaplain for local hospitals.
