This 370 page guide covers the history of the four modern SL: the 1971 R107, 1989 R129, 2001 R230 and 2012 R231. It looks at their individual history, engines, facelifts and discusses the AMG versions from the early 500SL 6.0 to the latest SL65. It talks about the designs, special editions and what selected tuners such as Brabus, Renntech or Carlsson had to offer. Complete technical specifications and annual production data of each model can be found towards the end of the book. A few readers have suggested to have each of the four models covered in greater detail. This would have blown up this book to over 800 pages. Given the number of photos included, the price for such a book would have been much too high. But to follow this proposal, the author has decided to give each model more room in individual books. So far the R107, R129 and R230 SL are covered in separate volumes. Published in summer and autumn 2015, they are over 200 pages strong. Each book comes with a comprehensive buyer’s guide, explains the VIN and data card in detail and discusses which SL to buy, taking into consideration 2015 second hand prices.
