This book is the full color version of the book with the identical title (ISBN 13: 978-1481114073) The old European pilgrim's road, the Way of St. James, covers a distance of 2700 kilometers from Cologne in Germany to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. During spring and summer 2011 the author perigrinated on this way, arriving in Santiago after 93 days. Besides his personal experiences and impressions he describes what this deeply European pilgrim's road has to offer with respect to nature, history and art history. The description is illustrated by a selection of the auhtor's photographs. The book is an invitation to experience this Way of St. James About the Author Prof. Dr. Gerd Gellßen wurde 1950 in Rheydt (jetzt Mönchengladbach) geboren. Er studierte Chemie und Biologie in Köln, Darmstadt und Jerusalem. Er wurde 1978 in Darmstadt promoviert. Es folgte eine Zeit als "Postdoctoral fellow" am Department of Biology der Queen's University in Kingston/Ontario (Kanada). 1987 habilitierte er im Fach Biologie an der Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf. Dort wurde er 1994 zum Professor ernannt. Er begeistert sich seit seiner Jugend für den Jakobsweg, den er komplett 1978 mit dem Fahrrad und jetzt zu Fuß bestritt. Er ist seit 1984 Präsident der St. Jakobusbruderschaft Düsseldorf. Er lebt in Wülfrath bei Düsseldorf. Gerd Gellißen ist verheiratet und Vater von drei Söhnen. Prof. Dr. Gerd Gellißen was born in 1950 in Mönchengladbach (Germany). He studied chemistry and biology in Cologne, Darmstadt and Jerusalem. He finished his PhD in 1978 (TH Darmstadt). He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Biology at the Queen's University Kingston (Ontario, Canada). In 1987 he was "habilitated", in 1994 he became a professor of biology at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf (Germany). Since his young days he is inspired by the Way of St. James, which he completely covered by bike in 1978 and now by hiking. Since 1984 he is the president of the St. James fraternity in Düsseldorf. He lives in Wülfrath close to Düsseldorf. He is married and father of three sons.
