Description

Product Description Provides data and analysis on the external debt of 120 low- and middle-income countries, and quarterly external and public sector debt statistics for high income economies. This publication features more than 200 time series indicators from 1970 to 2014 for most reporting countries. This edition of International Debt Statistics has been reconfigured to offer a more condensed presentation of the principal indicators, along with additional tables and analysis showcasing Quarterly External Debt Statistics (QEDS) and Quarterly Public Sector Debt (QPSD).Some highlights include:The combined stock of external debt of low- and middle income countries rose 7 percent to $5.4 trillion at end 2014, but remained moderate in relation to Gross National Income (GNI), an average of 22 percent, and to exports, an average of 79 percent.Foreign direct investment proved resilient and portfolio equity flows were robust bringing net financial flows (debt and equity) to $1.1 trillion in 2014.Countries reporting to the QEDS and PSD confirm that external debt levels in high-income countries are, on average, much higher than those of low- and middle-income countries, but that government debt-to-GDP ratios moderated in 2014.
