She is the author of The Essential Child (Oxford University Press, 2003) and over 100 other scholarly publications.  She is an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and Past President of the Cognitive Development Society, and has received numerous awards, including a J. S. Guggenheim Fellowship, a James McKeen Cattell Fund sabbatical fellowship, and the APA Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology in the Developmental Area.
