The editors' lucid introduction points out the paucity of scholarship on Chabon in comparison to such contemporaries as David Foster Wallace, Junot Diaz, and Jonathan Franzen, as well as to such forebears as Updike, Mailer, and Roth 'at similar points in their careers.'
