From the Back Cover The scheduling research field has been active and expanding for over forty years. In that time, the field has attracted a wealth of international interest from a variety of academic disciplines. This field has been a truly inter-disciplinary research area, with significant scientific advances have come from the disciplines of Information Technology and Computer Science, Mathematics and Operations Research, Manufacturing, Management, Business, Engineering, Psychology and Statistics. Nevertheless, after forty years of research, scheduling and IT systems have only scratched the surface of the benefits that can be realized from this field.
