En este trabajo se analiza, por primera vez en su conjunto, la producción escultórica cristiana hispana fechada entre los siglos VI y X. Frente a los tradicionales estudios de tipo formal o iconográfico, aquí se desarrolla y aplica una metodología arqueológica, basada en los métodos estratigráfico y tipológico. Con ello se consigue ordenar un amplísimo conjunto de materiales, que hasta hoy se encontraban dispersos y documentados de forma desigual, sino inéditos. A lo largo de sus doce capítulos y de sus 774 fichas de catálogo se dan a conocer, en orden cronológico, los principales centros escultóricos meridionales (Mérida, Toledo y Córdoba) y los conjuntos, talleres y edificios decorados del resto del territorio peninsular. La adopción de unos marcos territoriales y temporales tan amplios ha contribuido a la definición de un modelo explicativo propio, en buena medida diferente de aquellos que se han venido manejando (y discutiendo) hasta ahora. This work analyses, for the first time as a whole, Iberian Christian sculpture dated between the 6th and 10th centuries. The adoption of broad spatial and temporal frameworks has contributed to the definition of a new explanatory model.
