Description

Examines the dynamics of great power competition between the United States, the European Union and Russia in the Euro-Atlantic region Offers a holistic analysis of why, where, how, and whither US-EU-Russia rivalry has unfolded in the Euro-Atlantic region from 1992 to 2025, using a novel theory termed neo-offensive realism (a refinement of John Mearsheimer’s classical offensive realism) Advances a cross-level, multi-player approach, demonstrating the complex interplay of system- and unit-level forces in driving US-EU-Russia rivalry and their competition across a range of states and quasi-states in the Euro-Atlantic Presents the long-run patterns of US-EU-Russia rivalry by integrating quantitative and qualitative analyses, marshalling cross-country time-series data on GDP, national wealth, trade, energy flows, development assistance, military expenditure, arms transfers, cyber operations and related indicators This book offers a comprehensive analysis of the unfolding US–EU–Russia rivalry in the Euro-Atlantic from 1992 to 2025. Drawing on a novel theory termed neo-offensive realism, it examines why, where, how and whether this competition has intensified in the Euro-Atlantic region, particularly in the aftermath of the Russo–Ukrainian war. It advances a cross-level, multi-actor framework, demonstrating how system- and unit-level forces interact to shape US–EU–Russia rivalry across a diverse range of states and quasi-states in the Euro-Atlantic.
