About the Author Sönke Maatsch is a researcher at the Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics, Bremen, Germany. He studied economics and political science at the University of Bremen, the New School for Social Research, New York, and the Lille University of Science and Technology. He holds a PhD in Economics and a bachelor's degree in political science. He has participated in numerous research projects on European integration including the EU-funded project 'Reconstituting Democracy in Europe', and has taught at the University of Bremen.
