The idea of the miraculous is one which brings into sharp focus the competing and seemingly contradictory claims of two systems of thought - the religious and the scientific. Is is moreover one which, far from being of merely theoretical interest, goes to the very heart of the dilemma of the modern mind. The interest of the book lies in its "Gedankenexperiment" of developing the idea in a direction which gives way to the theologically neutral notion of the "psychical"; and the vastness of the philosophical consequences for both science and religion to follow from this. T.C. Williams also wrote "The Concept of the Categorical Imperative" and "The Unity of Kant's Critique of Pure Reason".
