About the Author Charles E. Orser, Jr. is Research Professor at Vanderbilt University and Research Adjunct at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, and Researcher with Timmins Martelle in London, Ontario. He is the author of several books including Historical Archaeology (2016, 3rd edition), A Historical Archaeology of the Modern World (1996), and An Archaeology of the English Atlantic World, 1600–1700 (2018). He is the founder and editor of the International Journal of Historical Archaeology, and a recipient of the J. C. Harrington Medal from the Society for Historical Archaeology. Andrés Zarankin is Professor of Archaeology at the University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and Director of the Laboratory of Antarctic Studies in Human Sciences (LEACH-UFMG). His main research interests include Antarctic archaeology, archaeological theory, archaeology of dictatorship, and historical archaeology. Pedro Paulo A. Funari is Professor in the Department of History of the University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil. He is former World Archaeological Congress Secretary, author of several books and papers and co-editor of Historical Archaeology, Back from the Edge (Routledge, 1999). Susan Lawrence is Professor at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia, where she teaches archaeology. She is the author of several books and numerous publications on gender, material culture studies, urban archaeology, British colonialism, and industrial archaeology. Her current research focuses on landscape and environmental archaeologies of the Anthropocene. Susan is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London and the Australian Academy of the Humanities. James Symonds is Professor of Historical Archaeology at the University of Amsterdam.
