Giroud draws on over forty years of experience with geomembranes both in the field and as a design engineer, as well as his connections through the International Geosynthetics Society. The book begins with basic definitions, composition and production of geomembranes, and descriptions of geomembrane applications with numerous illustrations. In a second part, it reviews the various types of geomembranes: PVC, HDPE, LLDPE, PP, EPDM, CSPE and bituminous geomembranes. Finally, it presents systematic comparisons between the various types of geomembranes. Its approach is essentially qualitative, avoiding equations and tables of numerical data. It is accessible to a broad readership including students, professors, researchers, civil and geotechnical engineers with or without knowledge on geomembranes, members of the geomembrane industry (manufacturers, suppliers, distributers, installers), engineers designing projects incorporating geomembranes, engineers and technicians in testing laboratories, providers of quality assurance, officials and engineers in organizations dealing with hydraulic structures such as canals, dams and reservoirs, and regulators in charge of permitting geomembrane-lined landfills, reservoirs or dams. This is the ideal book for all, from beginners to experts. About the Author Dr. J.P. Giroud, a pioneer of geosynthetics since 1970, is recognized worldwide as a leading expert in geosynthetics. He coined the words "geotextile" and "geomembrane", and was instrumental in the formation of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS), of which he was President. He is a former professor of geotechnical engineering, Director of the Geotextiles and Geomembranes Group of Woodward-Clyde Consultants, co-founder of GeoService, which became Geosyntec Consultants, and is now an independent consultant. He is an Honorary Member of the IGS, past presenter of the ASCE‘s Terzaghi Lecture, Chevalier in the Order of the Légion d’Honneur, and Member of the US National Academy of Engineering.
