Description

Product Description This book explores the practical aspects of setting up and assessing the quality of health checks. It is the first book to support clinicians and managers in enhancing the value of health checks in improving health outcomes, an increasingly essential goal for health services. The book will help maximise outcomes for individuals, families and employers by addressing each element within a health check from primary prevention, risk factor reduction and screening to early diagnosis and tertiary prevention. These are considered in relation to their ability to lead to subsequent improvements in individual health outcomes. Review Really interesting – particularly the section on challenges. Professor Sir David Haslam CBE, Chair, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence The book is excellent! Professor Sir Muir Gray About the Author Nick Summerton is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners, a fellow of the Faculty of Public Health and has been awarded a doctorate from the University of Oxford for original work on primary care diagnostics. In addition to working as a general practitioner since 1988 (initially single-handed and subsequently as a part-time partner), he has occupied a variety of parallel positions as a Public Health Consultant, PCT Medical Director, Clinical Lead Health Screening (BUPA & BMI), Senior Lecturer/Reader and as a Clinical Advisor to NICE, the DH, Royal Colleges, print media and various commercial organisations. He has written four books and published extensively on cancer, diagnostics, health screening, roman medicine and general practice. He regularly speaks at Pulse conferences (and has chaired the last two) - more recently he has been invited to speak to corporates and intermediaries concerning innovations and developments in health checks for individuals and employees.
