In the last decades, advanced materials and mechanics has become a hot topic in engineering. Recent trends show that the application of nanotechnology and environmental science together with advanced materials and mechanics are playing an increasingly important role in engineering applications. This book covers various topics such as advanced construction materials, smart materials in manufacturing, nanotechnology in mechanics and materials science, smart structures and systems, vibration and noise control, informational technology of materials, power conversion and intelligent control and fluid dynamics among others. Furthermore, the authors provide guidelines to researchers and engineers, enabling them to prepare and understand the materials and construction responses and analyses. The analytical methods presented in engineering applications and analysis for materials will be useful to anyone who produces, uses, or evaluates construction data, and will be a valuable tool in advanced engineering education and training programs. About the Author Professor Seungho Hong is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at West Virginia University, USA. Prior to joining West Virginia University as a faculty member, Dr. Hong conducted a lot of experimental work and field work at the Georgia Institute of Technology as a postdoctoral researcher. This is where he received his MSc and PhD degrees. Dr. Hong’s research expertise lies in environmental fluid mechanics, with an emphasis on the sediment-water interface in natural water courses and the hydrodynamic processes that occur, sediment suspension/transport and local bridge scour. Furthermore, he recently focused on using different materials to protect structures built in water courses from erosion. He has published over ten SCI-indexed and peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and is also active as a professional engineer in the USA.
