About the Author Joseph Bristow is Distinguished Professor of English at the University of California, Los Angeles, USA. His most recent book (coauthored with Rebecca N. Mitchell) is Oscar Wilde’s Chatterton: Literary History, Romanticism, and the Art of Forgery (2015). He is completing a study of Oscar Wilde’s criminal trials. Josephine McDonagh is Professor of Nineteenth-Century Literature at King’s College London, UK. She is the author of monographs on the works of Thomas De Quincey and George Eliot, and a wide-ranging study entitled Child Murder in British Culture 1720-1900 (2003). She is currently completing a study of migration and nineteenth-century British literature.
