Description

Four bugs, including Noel who is studying to be a doctor, go into Nabi’s body to try to save him because they love his daughter, Becky. A great adventure awaits them as they encounter goo and more goo, gross ear wax, danger and other disgusting things for the little girl they love so much. This book is fun and wonderfully gross. It shows the determination of the characters to be anything they want to be and do anything they have to do. Though the bugs successfully complete their task to save the father they fall deeper into the body and realize they have another problem to face. This book was written for the purpose of gently and comically bringing the reader into the understanding of what cigarettes do to body without being graphic or frightening. A stinky tar windpipe that is stuck to Louie’s face, the broken hairs from hot smoke that keep him from climbing up and a lung that looks more like raisins than grapes gently show the realities of cigarette smoke without being frightening. The book leaves the reader knowing that the bugs will be back to deal with the new problem they have found but in the meantime they have saved Nabi and Nabi has saved himself for Becky which was the ultimate goal.
