Description
There is evidence of a thousand years of music-making in Cornwall, secular and religious; vocal and instrumental. Mediæval harps, bagpipes, horns, fiddles, bells, and many more modern instruments are documented. However, much of this information is little known as it comes from diverse and perhaps unexpected sources. In particular, the place of the harp in Cornish music is not well understood. This book locates the harp in the musical history of Cornwall using early manuscripts, lexicons, account books, rolls and wills, contemporaneous literature, ledgers, iconography and newspaper reports. It addresses harps and harpers, musical characteristics and repertoire.
