Routledge Handbook of Asian Aging

In western countries, the rising tide of population aging took 100 years to alter the face of societies, but Asia is experiencing comparable changes in not much more than a quarter of a century. Contributors to "The Handbook of Aging" describe the magnitude of these changes and their effects on the aged and on societies attempting to adapt to the dramatic improvements in life expectancy brought on by rapid economic and social transformations. About the Author Hyunsook Yoon With a graduate degree from the School of Social Work, University of Washington, Hyunsook Yoon received her doctoral degree in gerontology at Ewha Women's University (Seoul, Korea). Starting her professional career as a social worker for hospitalized elderly and troubled families, Yoon now teaches social work and gerontology at Hallym University and directs the gerontology and geriatrics program there.Jon Hendricks is Dean at the University Honors College and Professor of Sociology at Oregon State University. He is a past-president for the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education, and has served as chair for both Sociology of Aging & the Life Course section, American Sociological Association, and Behavioral and Social Sciences, Gerontological Society of America. Hendricks has published extensively in gerontology and is the series editor for the Society and Aging Series (Baywood Publishing Company, Inc.). He has received the Distinguished Career Contribution Award as well as the Kalish Innovative Publication Award from the Gerontological Society of America.
