Wildlife of Southern Forests traces the history of southern forests and associated wildlife, details the biology and habitat requirements of species and communities and offers practical guidelines for habitat management on a broad scale. Information in this book should help land managers assess land suitability for various species and communities, determine how different land and forestry management practices affect wildlife, and actively manage for target species and communities. Chapters of Wildlife of Southern Forests are written by leading wildlife experts from universities, federal agencies, and conservation organizations of the South. The book is illustrated by renowned wildlife artist John Sidelinger. The book was compiled as a USDA Forest Service Southern Research Station project. Black and white edition. About the Author Dr. James G. (Jim) Dickson is Merritt Professor of Forestry and Coordinator of the Wildlife Program at Louisiana Tech University. He is also Scientist Emeritus of the USDA Forest Service, Southern Research Station. He has also been instrumental in advancing wildlife management through more than 250 presentations to lay and professional audiences. Jim has played a leadership role in the conservation of the wild turkey. He is past President and a long term Director of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
