Description

Infections, sepsis, and the threat of mechanical trauma can necessitate partial or complete removal of an antiarrhythmic system, including device and leads. Over the past decade, effective low–morbidity techniques for extracting endocardial leads have been developed, and indications for lead extractions are no longer confined to strictly mandatory situations. This videotape (21 min) and companion manual details all of the most widely practiced lead extraction tools and techniques, including: the Massumi technique the use of the Cook Pacemaker Corporation s locking stylet the Byrd Femoral Work Station the laser extraction sheath recently developed (in conjunction with the Spectranetics Corporation) by Dr. Charles Byrd, who has done most of the pioneering work in this field. In addition to seeing and learning how these techniques are performed, gain a better understanding of the management of antiarrhythmic complications and the various options that now exist.
