One of the major primary sources for Harcourt and Son (FDUP 2004), a political biography of Victorian statesman Sir William Harcourt, was the series of manuscript journals kept by his son, Lewis. This volume presents extracts from these journals. Although the focus is on English party politics of the period, a fair amount of gossip and social trivia has been retained. Editor Patrick Jackson (an independent scholar and biographer) provides commentary and explanatory notes as well as regular cross-references to relevant passages in the biography.
