Prepared by Task Committees of the Petrochemical Committee of the Energy Division of ASCE. Designing petrochemical facilities that can safely withstand a variety of natural and humanmade forces is a particular challenge to structural and industrial engineers. Whether the problem is mitigating the effects of an accident or ensuring critical structures can withstand the forces of wind and earthquakes, engineers may need guidance that isn't offered by existing local building codes.
