Specifically, issues pertaining to etiology (genetic and environmental ), specific diagnostic and prognostic studies as well as contemporary "cutting edge" therapeutic modalities are offered and discussed in a balanced presentation. Unique aspects of this presentation include: genetic testing for both thyroid and parathyroid disease, contemporary management of thyroid cancer, genetic aspects of medullary carcinoma, imaging techniques in surgical disease of the parathyroid glands in conjunction with limited exploration for hyperparathyroidism, contemporary management of the neck in regional metastatic thyroid malignancies and intraoperatice assessment of parathyroid hormone levels used to complement limited parathyroid exploration. It includes over 250 full color illustrations and photographs as well as numerous tables and charts to help clarify concepts.
