Description

Product Description In this dynamic analysis of the gender revolution, authors Anne Breneman and Rebecca Mbuh create a platform for scholars from a variety of cultures to reflect upon their experiences as women and men in gendered cultures and upon their visions of prospects for gender equality and empowerment. Review Part 4, which delves into two of the most compelling problems of women, is a sensible following of Mbuh's chapter in Part 3. While Mokgadi Moletsane and Mark DeLancey explain why women are more vulnerable to the HIV / AIDS than men in Africa, Anne Breneman discusses various forms of violence against women and girls as well as some solutions to this problem. Both chapters are well-focused and thorough, and likely of interest to classes exploring specific gender issues.... Anne Breneman's chapter, 'To Be or Not to Be a Mother, ' presents a powerful ending.... [Women in the New Millenium] is informative and will enhance the public's awareness of the global women's movement.--Mi Yung Yoon, Hanover College "Asian Women " About the Author Anne R. Breneman is a professor in the Department of Sociology at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. She received her masters and doctorate in Social Science and Education at the University of Georgia and her bachelors in cultural anthropology / sociology from Hobart & William Smith Colleges.
