This edition of Boswell's "Life of Johnson" details how Boswell's original words were changed during the publication process, and offers a fresh reading of Boswell's work. Marshall Waingrow charts the changes made during composition and at the proof stage, and corrects and explains the printer's misreadings and author's errors which crept into the final edition. This edition of the manuscript is a companion work to the standard scholarly edition of the "Life of Johnson", known as the "Hill-Powell" version. About the Author Thomas F. Bonnell, Professor of English at Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, is the author of The Most Disreputable Trade: Publishing the Classics of English Poetry, 1765-1810 (Oxford, 2008) and several articles on the late 18th-century British book trade exploring the commercial contexts of Johnson's Lives of the Poets.
