The Construction Design and Management [CDM) Regulations came into force on March 31, 1995. These regulations require clients, designers and contractors to take into account health, safety and environmental issues throughout the complete lifecycle of a building or plant––including the initial site works, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance and demolition stages. The regulations have caused considerable concern in the construction industry and among major engineering clients because their obligations are seen as extremely onerous. Such examples include the preparation of a Health and Safety Plan and the maintenance of a Health and Safety File detailing design criteria and the construction process. This manual, prepared originally for use on PowerGen′s own projects, ensures that design risks to personnel and to the environment can be identified and that measures can be taken to eliminate or mitigate those hazards. It can also form not only the basis of the Health and Safety Plan and Health and Safety File required by the CDM Regulations, but also an auditable record for quality–assurance purposes. Additionally, an electronic edition of The CDM Regulations has also been issued, which contains the entire content of the printed edition. The text and tables are connected to powerful navigation facilities to help the user locate a passage quickly and effortlessly. Using the electronic edition will help the user to keep track of all the important safety data on an engineering project. Finally, this product is Y2K compliant.
