About the Author Dr. Carolyn Tice is the Associate Dean and Program Chair at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and was appointed to her position July, 2002. Her prior appointment was chair of the Department of Social Work, Ohio University, a position she held for nine years. Dr. Tice teaches social welfare policy. She received her BSW from West Virginia University, a MSW from Temple University, and completed her DSW at the University of Pennsylvania where she worked with Hmong refugees. Throughout her career she has worked in the nation's Appalachian region. The author of three books, Dr. Tice's research focus has been on rural aspects of social work practice and the strengths perspective. She is a site visitor for the Council on Social Work Education and a member of the Program Committee for the Maryland Chapter of the National Association of Social Work.
