Dr. Freiman left the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 2006 and began a consulting business. In his twenty-eight years at NIST, he served as chief of the Ceramics Division and as deputy director of the Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory. Dr. Freiman has published over 150 papers focusing on the mechanical properties of brittle materials. He
