This work offers a detailed analysis of European Union directives and applies them to various situations involving Internet, digital television and third- generation mobile networks. It anticipates issues and problems that may arise in individual member states when implementing the provisions of the directives - particularly where provisions of the directive are ambiguous or leave considerable freedom to member states. Under the regime, six new directives replaced the previous twenty-six. This simplified the regulatory landscape in the E.U. while simultanously extending it to cover new areas such as cable television, satellite television, terrestrial broadcast, IP networks - even electricity networks used to carry data.
