About the Author Julie Cupples is Professor of Human Geography and Cultural Studies at the University of Edinburgh, UK. She has been working in Latin America since 1990 and has done research in Nicaragua, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Colombia, including the San Andrés Archipelago. Her publications have dealt with a range of themes including revolution and conflict, Indigenous and Afrodescendant media practices, gender and sexuality, elections, and disasters and environmental risk.
