His professional and research work focuses on how power relations affect the participation of different people and social groups in decision-making processes. He is particularly interested in how residents’ participation is managed within urban development projects, particularly in informal settlements, and what the effects are on in/equality and social exclusion. He has worked to include an intersectional perspective into participatory design and to incorporate participatory approaches in the drafting and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
