Description

Product Description Steroid hormone receptors (SHRs) are known to play vital roles in normal physiology through the control of development, differentiation, metabolic homeostasis, and reproduction. Due to their involvement in various pathological and disease conditions, SHRs are also important therapeutic targets in several disorders including inflammation, autoimmune diseases, hormone-dependent cancers, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular diseases. Steroid Hormone Receptors in Endocrine Physiology and Diseases covers the role of steroid hormones in human physiology and receptor activity in pathophysiology of disease. The book discusses how these receptors can be used as therapeutic targets for the treatment of conditions from cancer to ageing, offering immediate application of biochemical principles into clinical applications such as diagnosis and treatment. This book is a valuable reference for graduate and postdoctoral scientists, as well as medical students, interested in the functional role of various steroid hormone receptors in a wide variety of endocrine related diseases. Review A comprehensive review of the functional role of various steroid hormone receptors in a wide variety of pathologic conditions About the Author Raj Kumar, Ph.D., is a Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Houston College of Medicine, USA. Dr. Kumar is co-director of Endocrine and Reproductive Systems, and Scientific Foundation of Medicine courses. For more than 20-years, Dr. Kumar has been working on the structure and functions of the steroid hormone receptors, and actively pursuing structure-based drug designing for endocrine related diseases. Dr. Kumar has co-authored more than 100 publications, including research articles in high-impact journals, invited reviews/book chapters, books and patent. Dr. Kumar’s publications are highly cited, and he has received several research grant funding. He has spoken at numerous engagements, served as an editorial board member or scientific reviewer for several journals, served on numerous grant review panels, including NIH and the National Science Foundation, and established a number of research collaborations at national and international levels. Iain McEwan, Ph.D., is a Professor in molecular and cellular endocrinology and has over 25 years research experience in steroid receptor signaling and managing a productive research group, with over 77 peer reviewed publications. Current research projects in Dr McEwan’s group are multidisciplinary and focuses on fundamental and translational aspects of androgen receptor expression, structure and function. Research funding sources include the Medical Research Council (UK), Prostate Cancer Research (UK) and local charities. Dr. McEwan is on the editorial board of Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology and sits on a several grant panels including the Translational Clinical Sciences panel, Chief Scientist Office (Scottish Government) and Prostate Cancer UK. He has collaborated extensively with colleagues in North America, Europe and Australia.
