Description

Product Description Behavioral Ecology of Tropical Birds, Second Edition provides the most updated and comprehensive review on the evolution of behavior in tropical landbirds. The book reviews gaps in our knowledge that were identified twenty years ago when the first edition was published, highlights recent discoveries that have filled those gaps, and identifies new areas in urgent need of study. It covers key topics, including timing of breeding, movement ecology, life history traits, slow vs. fast pace of life, mating systems, mate choice, territoriality, communication, biotic interactions, and conservation. Written by international experts on the behavior of tropical birds, the book explores why the tropics is a unique natural laboratory to study the evolution of bird behavior and why temperate zone species are so different. A recent surge of studies on tropical birds has helped to reduce the temperate zone bias that arose because most avian model species in behavioral ecology were adapted to northern temperate climates. This is an important resource for researchers, ecologists and conservationists who want to understand the rich and complex evolutionary history of avian behavior. Review Provides a comprehensive, complete compilation of the latest research in RLKs From the Back Cover
Receptor-like kinases (RLKs) belongs to the class of defense-related proteins. It is one of the largest protein family with roles ranging from growth and development to stress response. They are involved in every aspect of the plant life cycle, such as growth and development, reproduction and immunity. Development of high throughput sequencing technology has favoured the identification and characterization of numerous gene families in plants in the recent years. Researchers have identified and characterized numerous RLK sub-families in model plant species and agro-economically important crop plants like rice, wheat, sorghum, tomato etc.

Plant Receptor-like Kinases is a compilation of the latest research in this important class of development and defense response proteins. It provides the foundational knowledge of the classification of RLKs, their mechanism of action and their roles in the plant life cycle, as well as the most up-to-date advances in the applications of RLKs. This is an essential read to researchers interested in plant signaling and plant genomics.
About the Author Dr. Santosh Upadhyay is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh, India. He has been working in the field of Plant Biotechnology for more than 14 years. He is currently working in the area of functional genomics. His research group at PU has characterized numerous important defense related protein families such as receptor-like kinases, anti-oxidant enzymes, cation transporters etc. of bread wheat. They are also characterizing long non-coding RNAs related to the abiotic and biotic stress response. He has authored more than 75 publications including research papers in leading journals of international repute, national and international patents, book chapters and books. In recognition of his strong credentials and contributions, he has been awarded NAAS Young scientist award (2017-18) and NAAS-Associate (2018) from the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, India, the INSA Medal for Young Scientist (2013) from the Indian National Science Academy, India, the NASI- Young Scientist Platinum Jubilee Award (2012) from the National Academy of Sciences, India, and the Altech Young Scientist Award (2011). Dr. S. Shumayla is currently a Research Associate in the Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh, India. She has been working in the area of plant molecular biology and plant biotechnology from past 5 years. She has identified and characterized various sub families of receptor-like kinase (RLK), such as lectin receptor kinases, leucine-r
