He received his Doctorate from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia. His main research interests are (1) Algal Biotechnology for Bioenergy Production, Environmental Remediation, and Industrial Wastewater Treatment, (2) Environmental Engineering, (3) Food Technology and High-value Biochemicals (4) Heavy Metals Biosorption. Dr Ashfaq has published numerous journal articles in highly reputed international scientific journals and authored or co-authored 4 book chapters. Fawzi Banat is a professor in chemical engineering and the chairman of the Chemical Engineering Department at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He is an educated scholar from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, with a strong background in separation processes.
