About the Author Stanlie M. James is a professor emerita in the Department of Afro-American Studies and the Women's Studies Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was Vice Provost for Inclusion and Community Engagement and a professor in the African and African American Studies and Women and Gender Studies Programs at Arizona State University.
