Description

A new generation course in grammar and writing practice. Matching the requirements of the National Literacy Strategy, it ensures pupils learn and practise core grammar skills in whole class, group, and individual sessions, and apply their learning to their own writing. All teaching objectives are first taught through an authentic model text on OHT. Full teaching notes are given as three lesson plans per teaching objective, and the teacher's guides also offer differentiated copy masters and 'reminder sheets' to enable children to work independently and accurately. Detailed guidance is given on assessment. The pupil's books offer further authentic texts, and three levels of activity to ensure children's comprehension of the text, to secure their learning of the key grammar point, and to apply their learning to their own writing. The materials and pedagogy are fully in line with the training that teachers will receive on teaching grammar in summer 00. The course's simple structure matches that of its highly successful sister series, Comprehension Success. Pie Corbett is a former teacher and inspector, now a freelance literacy consultant and author. He has been closely involved in the drawing up of the National Literacy Strategy and is co-author of the sentence level (grammar) NLS materials, and the forthcoming training materials. Rachel Roberts is an inspector in Merseyside, and was co-author of the NLS sentence level strand.
