Description

Product Description Lipids in Plants and Algae: From Fundamental Science to Industrial Applications, Volume 101 provides in-depth reviews on the most important aspects of the field. Topics in this volume encompass the most recent data about the physical properties of membrane lipids, lipid biosynthesis and metabolism (including glycerolipids, fatty acids, sterols, N-acylethanolamines, prostaglandins, phytoprostane), lipid storage, acyl flux, the dynamic and transport of glycerolipids, and the conversion of fatty acids into hydrocarbons. Lipid metabolism and lipidomics in plants and algae are one of the most challenging areas in biology, not only for fundamental research but also for the sustainable production of valuable molecules for green chemistry, including biofuel and health. Review Includes comprehensive and authoritative reviews from leading experts on lipid metabolism in plants and algae From the Back Cover
Lipid metabolism and lipidomics in plants and algae are today one of the most challenging area in biology, not only for fundamental research but also for the sustainable production of valuable molecules for green chemistry, including biofuel, and health. "Lipids in plants and algae: from fundamental science to industrial applications" provides in depth reviews covering in a single book the most important aspects of the field. Topics in this volume encompass most recent data about the physical properties of membrane lipids, lipid biosynthesis and metabolism (including glycerolipids, fatty acids, sterols, N-acylethanolamines, prostaglandins, phytoprostane), lipid storage, acyl flux, the dynamic and transport of glycerolipids, and the conversion of fatty acids into hydrocarbons.
About the Author Fabrice Rébeillé is a research director at the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique (CEA), Grenoble, France, in the laboratory of Physiologie Cellulaire Végétale. He graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy of Grenoble in 1978 and completed a PhD in 1983. He was recruited by the CEA in 1983. In 1984-1985 he joined as a post-doc fellow the Marshall D. Hatch laboratory at CSIRO, Canberra, Australia. From 1995 to 2000, he was Professor of biochemistry at the University of Grenoble. His domains of expertise are about plant cell metabolism, including respiration, photosynthesis and photorespiration, biosynthesis of vitamins and more recently lipid metabolism. Eric Maréchal is Director of Research at CNRS and is currently Director of the Cell and Plant Physiology Laboratory, a joint unit of CNRS, CEA, INRA and University Grenoble Alpes, Grenoble, France. He completed his PhD at University of Grenoble Alpes, France, in 1994. From 1994 to 1997 he joined the Nam-Hai Chua Laboratory at the Rockefeller University, New York, USA. After a short period in the Biocatalysis division at Rhône-Poulenc, Lyon, he joined the CNRS in 1998. He is an expert in lipid metabolism and physiology of algae and plants, in relation to their evolution and their environment.
